Sthapit to fight polls

Kathmandu, January 5:

Former mayor of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City and acting chairman of the country’s oldest political party — Nepal Praja Parishad — Keshav Sthapit said today he would contest the election for the mayorship of the metropolitan on his party’s ticket.

He said Govinda Krishna Adhikari, an active cadre of the CPN-UML, would fight for his deputy’s post. He said Adhikari has already agreed to contest the election scheduled for February 8 as his deputy. Sthapit told this daily that his party would field candidates in all the 35 wards of the KMC and 40 other municipalities of the country and the candidates’ names would be officially announced by the first week of February.
