Street kids’ show in Thamel

Kathmandu, June 13:

More than 10 street children today performed dances, played madal and sang folk songs at Bhagwan Bahal junction in Thamel.

Thamel Tourist Guide Baal Uddhar Kendra Nepal coordinated the performance. Pradip Bikram Thapa, president of the organisation, said the programme was a part of an effort to make people aware of the plight of street children in the area.

With the money collected from passers-by, Thapa said, his organisation will take care of the children.

“This is a small effort to help control the problem of street children,” said vice president Mahendra Bikram Shahi.

The locals and shop-owners in the area were not much impressed with the performance, which blocked the road and affected nearby traffic.

Shop owner Tshering Lama said, “This is yet another method to make easy money from locals and tourists.”
