Student organisations close to ruling parties protest apex court order

KATHMANDU: Various student organisations close to major ruling political parties on Saturday staged demonstrations against the interim order of the Supreme Court whereby the court had  stayed the impeachment motion registered in Parliament against Chief Justice Sushila Karki and reinstated her as CJ.

They have termed the order by a single bench of Justice Cholendra Shamsber JB Rana on Friday in favour of Karki, unconstitutional and an act that has violated Legislature-Parliament's privilege.

They have also sought to scrap the order and asked the court to acknowledge the supremacy of the Parliament, a body of representatives of people.

A rally was taken out from Exhibition Road that went through various places in the Capital and later converged into a corner meet at Putalisadak.

Addressing the gathering, President of Nepali Congress-aligned Nepal Students Union Nain Singh Mahar demanded  scraping the order and asked the court not to interfere in Parliament's privilege.

Likewise, Vice Chairman of All Nepal National Independent Students Union-Revolutionary Surendra Basnet said the order that has breached the right of Parliament would not be acceptable to the student organisations.
