Kathmandu, May 7

Seven student unions have warned they will padlock 8,000 private schools across the country, if they fail to refund the fee hike. The unions have warned of educational strike on May 10.

Organising a press meet today, All Nepal National Independent Students Union (Revolutionary), RJP Nepal Student Union, Naya Shakti Student Union, All Nepal National Free Students Union (fifth), Socialist Student Forum Nepal and National Students Union have  announced protest against the decision of Department of Education .

Chiranjivi Dhakal, president of All Nepal National Independent Students Union (Revolutionary) said the Department of Education had taken the decision to adjust the fee hike after holding talks with a few student unions without informing other student unions.

“The decision was taken in a hurry without fulfilling our demands; the strike has been taken back. We are not going to take back our strike with only a six-point agreement,” he said.

In the same way, Manish Mishra, president of RJP-Nepal Student Union, said that every year student union has not been organising strike.

Neither has the government acted against the fee hike; nor has the private school organisation reduced the fees. “We demand formulation of a criteria for fees for boarding schools.”

The student unions will submit a warning to the government on May 7, hold protest at Maitighar on May 8, on May 9 an interaction program will be held and on May 10 an education strike will be held.
