Student unions seek new road map to move ahead

KATHMANDU: Major 11 student unions have decided to work together in order to fix a new road map of the national students' movement.

The unions affiliated with various political parties held a meeting today and decided to lead the movement towards new goals and objectives, according to a statement issued by chairs and representatives of the organisations.

Accordingly, a task force consisting representatives from all organisations would be formed to finalise the road map.

The team would also decide steps needed to implement achievements of the various student union movements, the statement added.

The signatories include Nainsingh Mahar of Nepal Students Union affiliated to the Nepali Congress, Nabina Lama of All Nepal National Free Students Union affiliated to the CPN-UML and Narendra Neupane of All Nepal National Independent Students Union-Revolutionary affiliated to the CPN Maoist Centre.

Meanwhile, the organisations also expressed their commitment to hold the Free Students Union elections at Tribhuvan University colleges on time.

The unions demanded that the government and concerned bodies immediately implement the Supreme Court verdict, which had told them to allocate 45 per cent seats of medical colleges for reservations under various categories.
