Summit of health and population scientists concludes
Kathmandu, April 12
The second National Summit of Health and Population Scientists organised by Nepal Health Research Council with the theme of ‘Health and Population Research for Achieving Sustainable Development Goals’ concluded in Kathmandu by endorsing a four-point declaration today.
Realising Universal Health Coverage as a key strategy for achieving the SDGs and acknowledging social justice and health equity as the foundations for UHC, the organiser, partners, and participants of the summit committed to carrying out health research in accordance with national ethical guidelines.
They also pledged to engage in knowledge synthesis and translation of evidence into meaningful actions to achieve the SDGs through UHC and work together with researchers, academicians, policy makers and program managers to alleviate the pain and sufferings of the people of Nepal.
They also urged the council to play a pivotal role as a national authority to promote research culture and informed policy-making.
The summit appreciated the role of state and non-state stakeholders, including private sectors, in building national research capacity and creating an environment for research promotion.
It also urged the government to allocate adequate resources for health research as per the international commitments and in compliance with the principle of aid effectiveness and harmonisation, and nurture participatory decision making process considering the local context, realities, evidence, and innovations.
It also sought the need to encourage, inspire and motivate the young generation in health research with their complete dedication and commitment so that their full potentials as health researchers is achieved.
