Supreme Court issues show cause notice to govt for dissolving HoR

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court on Friday issued a show cause order to the government for dissolving the House of Representatives.

The Constitutional bench, consisting five justices including Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher JBR, completed the hearing of writ petitions challenging the government's decision to dissolve the parliament and ordered the government to provide the original documents of the decision made by the Council of Ministers and Office of the President regarding the same.

The bench also ordered that all other related documents of the parliament be presented before it. The bench has further ordered the government to submit a written response by January 3, with no provision for extension of date.

Advocates arguing for reinstatement of the Parliament had asked for an interim order to stop the government from implementing the decision to dissolve the House.

However, the bench refused to issue the interim order on the issue.

Similarly, the apex court also asked for a amicus curiae regarding the writ petition from Nepal Bar Association and Supreme Court Bar Association.
