SC summons PM, Speaker over Constitution amendment bill
KATHMANDU: Supreme Court of Nepal on Thursday summoned Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Speaker Onsari Gharti Magar to discuss the Constitution amendment bill recently registered at the Parliament.
A single bench of Justice Jagadish Sharma Paudel this afternoon ordered the Prime Minister and the Speaker to furnish written clarifications within a week informing the rationale behind the registration of amendment bill.
The Court now would conduct the next hearing on the case filed against the government move on December 20.
The Nepali Congress-Maoist coalition government on November 29 had registered the amendment bill at the Parliament Secretariat in order to address demands put forth by the agitating Madhesi parties.
Following the registration, the Former Lawmakers' Forum had filed the case demanding that the apex court stayed the amendment process.
