Sushma Swaraj calls on President, Prime Minister

KATHMANDU: Indian Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj, who was in Kathmandu to pay final tributes to late Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala, called on President Bidya Devi Bhandari and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

The Indian delegation led by Swaraj had reached the Prime Minister's residence in Baluwatar and the Sheetal Niwas to meet the Prime Minister and the President respectively, after paying homage to late Koirala at the Dasharath Stadium.

According to spokesperson at the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, Vikas Swarup, Swaraj told Oli that demise of Koirala was a common loss for both Nepal and India.

In response, Oli said that India always stood by Nepal in its hour of grief.

Likewise, President Bhandari told the delegation that Nepal-India relationship is very deep and intimate, and transcends politics.

Meanwhile, the Indian delegation comprising comprising Rajya Sabha member and Janata Dal United leader  Sharad Yadav; deputy leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and former Union Cabinet minister Anand Sharma, and Communist Party of India (Marxist)’s General Secretary Sitaram Yechury is scheduled to return to New Delhi today itself.
