KATHMANDU: The first meeting of the Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee (PSHC) has formed a three-member task force to prepare procedures for the hearing.

The 15-member Committee was formed on Sunday after a nine-month debate over the strength of the Committee members.

The task force comprises Anita Kumari Pariyar, Ganesh Man Gurung and Bal Krishna Khand.

Meanwhile, the first meeting of the PHSC held at the chamber of Speaker Onsari Gharti today decided to urge the Speaker to fix the date for the election of the Committee Chairperson.

Accordingly, Gharti scheduled the election for 2 pm on coming Wednesday.

As per the election schedule, the candidates have to register their candidacy to the Secretary General of the Parliament until 5:00 pm on Tuesday.

After the finalisation of the procedures and the election of the Chairperson, the hearing process for the recommended justices and ambassadors would begin.

Although the Judicial Council had nominated 11 justices for the Supreme Court three months ago, they have not been able to join work as their parliamentary hearing is yet to take place.

Parliamentary hearing for Acting Chief Justice Sushila Karki, who was nominated as chief justice, and 22 ambassadorial nominees have also not been conducted due to the same reason.

The Parliamentary Regulations authoritises the PHSC to reject any recommendation with a two-thirds majority.
