Task force submits report on university affiliation to colleges

Kathmandu, January 12

A task force formed by the government has suggested that no university in the country should be allowed to grant affiliation to new colleges until the federal and provincial structures for universities are fixed.

Minister of Education, Science and Technology Giriraj Mani Pokhrel on August 7 last year had formed a task force, seeking suggestions on criteria for universities to grant affiliation to colleges. The team led by Dev Raj Adhikari, member secretary of the University Grant Commission, submitted the report to the ministry yesterday.

The report has been submitted to the government only a few days after the National Medical Education Bill was endorsed by the Parliamentary Education and Health Committee. The draft bill allows universities to provide affiliation to medical colleges outside Kathmandu valley if they have taken the letter of intent and meet the required criteria.
