Teachers' demo in front of MoE

KATHMANDU: Nepal Educational Republican Forum (NERF) on Wednesday staged a protest in front of the Ministry of Education (MoE), disrupting the traffic movement from 11am to noon in that area.

Some 600 teachers from different educational institutions - and hailing from both within and outside the Kathmandu Valley - took to the street.

Sporting black masks on their face, the activists sat in on the street to protest the government’s failure to implement past agreements.

Speaking to The Himalayan Times, Home Kumar Thapa, vice president of NERF said, “We were compelled to organise such protest after the government remained mum to our demands.”

He said that the education sector was full of irregularities. Such protests were the only way to draw the government’s attention towards their long-standing problems.

“Every government has failed to prioritise the education sector,”Thapa alleged. NERF threatened to launch a fresh protest after evaluating the government’s policies and programmes and the allocation for education in the new fiscal.
