KATHMANDU, AUGUST 26
Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari has stated that the Teej festival is an occasion to advocate for gender equality and women's empowerment.
The former President expressed her hope that the festival would inspire everyone to eliminate discrimination and build a more equitable society. In a message shared today on social media, she extended her best wishes to all Nepali women and emphasized that Teej strengthens sociocultural and familial bonds.
"Teej is a living tradition that reflects our lifestyle, culture, and values of tolerance. Today, married women observe fasting to wish longevity and good health for their spouses," she noted. She added that the togetherness of married daughters with their parental families and childhood friends fosters greater social cohesion and strengthens relationships among relatives.
Bhandari also urged celebrants to practice frugality and to preserve the festival by upholding its religious and cultural values.
