Temporary teachers stage sit-in
KATHMANDU: Around thousand temporary teachers from different parts of the country today staged a sit-in in front of the Ministry of Education. The protest is said
to be against the unilateral agreement of Teachers’ Union with the government.
The protestors said that in a 14-point agreement signed with the Ministry of Education, earlier, it was agreed that the temporary teachers would be made permanent through open competition. Talking to The Himalayan Times, Dinesh Thapa, general secretary of the protest committee said the decision was not in favour of the temporary teachers. He said, “We have been demanding for internal competition but ignoring our demand, the teachers union had agreed on open competition.”
According to Thapa, there were around 17,000 temporary teachers across the country but the agreement mentioned the number to be around 12,096.
