Kathmandu, August 12

Thousands of people took part in a mass rally taken out from Maithighar to Baneshwor to show solidarity with Dr Govinda KC today.

Dr KC’s is on a fast unto death for the last 19 days and his health is deteriorating with each passing day. The rally converged into a corner meet at Baneshwor.

Speakers at the corner meeting warned that further delay in addressing Dr KC’s demands would end the political career of leaders. They also highlighted the necessity of medical colleges in the rural areas in the country.

Om Prakash Aryal, a lawyer and one of the speakers, said lawmakers should be ready to face a political downfall if they further delayed decision on the issues raised by Dr KC for reforms in the medical education and health sectors of the country.

“You (lawmakers) are free to make a choice. But if you choose to support the medical mafia, the result will have devastating consequences on your political career,” warned Aryal. People from more than 50 organisations took part in the mass rally.

Dr KC has been staging fast-onto death demanding immediate passage of the Medical Education Bill as per the recommendation made by Prof Kedar Bhakta Mathema-led panel.
