KATHMANDU, APRIL 9

Former Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has been released on bail and handed over to his family while undergoing treatment at hospital this morning.

According to Kathmandu District Police Range spokesperson SP Pawan Kumar Bhattarai, Oli was released into the custody of his wife, Radhika Shakya, with the condition that he must appear before authorities when required for investigation.

Police said further decisions regarding his discharge from hospital will be taken by doctors based on his health condition. Oli has been receiving treatment at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital following his arrest.

Oli was detained on March 27 (Chaitra 14) from his residence in connection with an investigation into incidents linked to the Gen-Z protests. His detention followed a recommendation by a probe commission led by Gauri Bahadur Karki to initiate criminal investigation.

The release comes in line with an order from the Supreme Court of Nepal, which had directed authorities to conclude the investigation within a specified timeframe or release him on conditions if the probe was not completed.

Meanwhile, former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak is scheduled to be released on similar conditions and handed over to his family.

Both leaders had been under investigation in connection with a case related to the incidents of Bhadra 23, and were released after their remand period expired and upon the consent of the government attorney's office.
