Three Balmeeki Bidyapeeth students freed

Kathmandu, January 8:

Police released the three students of Balmeeki Bidyapeeth this evening who were arrested from the campus premises on December 29, after the campus administration withdrew its charges against them.

The three — Bamdev Adhikary, Pradip Marasini and Saroj Khanal — were arrested as they were proceeding for a talk with the university authorities’ team to discuss the college students’s 27-point charter of demands. Students since then had been protesting on the streets, demanding the release of the arrested three students.

“The campus administration had charged them with hooliganism and vandalism,” said Bishnu Panthi, former FSU chairman. Panthi said the next step would be holding dialogue with the Mahendra Sanskrit University (MSU) officials regarding fulfillment of their 27-point charter of demands.

The students’ demands include resignation of the campus chief, quality education and skills-based curriculum.
