Kathmandu, May 27:
Three incidents of firing were reported in the valley in the last five days.
A 35-year-old taxi driver, Khadka Bahadur Ale, was injured when unidentified persons opened fire near the Geeta Mata School at Bijeshwori today. Ale, who was heading to his apartment on foot, sustained injuries on his right leg. He has been undergoing treatment at the Bir Hospital. Police suspect that a criminal group is behind all the three incidents, adding that the group aims to create anarchy in the valley.
A control room vehicle took Ale to the hospital.
Police seized a motorcycle and suspect that it belongs to the shooter.
On Friday evening, three persons, including Niranjan Tiwadewala, were injured when a group opened fire on them at Pachali in Teku. Another firing incident was also reported at Tripureshwor on Wednesday evening, in which a driver was injured. Police seized a motorcycle abandoned by a gunman at the incident site.
The group was also suspected to have opened fire in the air at the Baneshwor chowk the same evening.
“We suspect that a criminal group is behind all these incidents, though we do not know exactly why they are doing all this,” says SSP at the Metropolitan Police Crime Division Hanumandhoka, Upendra Kanta Aryal. The group might be trying to create anarchy, Aryal suspects.
