THT scribe wins ICIMOD award

KATHMANDU: An article by THT reporter Ramesh Prasad Bhushal won the regional runner up award in the media reports competition organised by the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD).

The competition was held both at international and regional level. Journalists writing on climate change issue from Nepal India, Pakistan, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Srilanka and the Maldives submitted their published articles for the contest in the regional category.

While journalist across the world writing on one of the themes on the Himalayas and climate change, under the international category, also submitted their articles for the contest.

The article written by Bhushal entitled 'Cash on forest to fight climate change and earn foreign exchange' published on September 17, 2009 was selected for the award as the runner up in the regional category.

Farrukh Ahmed Chishtie from Pakistan bagged the first prize in regional category. Anjali Derryn Nayar of Canada won the international category award for her article carried by Nature Journal.

The competition was open to written articles and reports published in either print or electronic media between August 1 and December 7, 2009.

The articles were judged based on their originality, composition, content and overall effectiveness in conveying the message to the readers.

The winners and runner up will be awarded $1,000 and $ 500 each, according to ICIMOD.
