Kathmandu, November 13:
The condition of the road section that leads to Ring Road from the Kanti Children’s Hospital has been deteriorating, causing a great problem to commuters. Of the 1,300 meter-long road section of Kanti Marga, some 40 meters steep section of the road has worsened. No authorities concerned has yet taken any initiation to repair the road.
According to a local Sunjuli Singh, the state of the road is very bad and has remained in such a state for more than 6-7 months. Authorities concerned are yet to take any initiative to repair the road, he added.
The potholes on the road have been causing many difficulties to those vehicles passing through the road. The steep section of the road, with numerous potholes, is posing danger to ride on. “The authorities concerned need to take this problem seriously and solve it as soon as possible,” she said.
Singh said that the road is very useful for commuters as it is a shortcut way to reach the ring road. “Since the traffic in the Narayan Gopal Chowk is often erratic, this road is an alternate route and also saves time.”
Secretary at the ward-3 of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC), Raj Kumar Giri, said the road has been deteriorated, adding it has not been maintained since the past 10 years.
Who’s looking into it?
Secretary at the ward-3 of the KMC, Raj Kumar Giri, said a consumers’ committee has been formed to maintain the road, besides maintaining the sewerage system in the area.
A construction plan of Rs 6 million has been approved by the KMC for both the work of maintaining the road and the drainage system, but the plan has not been implemented due to the ongoing conflict between the locals of the area and the management of the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital. “Since the project exceeds Rs 5 lakh, we have asked the KMC to take the responsibility of the project,” he said, adding that the committee headed by a local Balaram Thapa is cooperating with the KMC to maintain the road section.
He also said the road section had been gravelled some four times before, but that the gravelling did not last for long.
