Tht watch : What’s fixed

Lalitpur, December 2:

Locals of Imadol, Lalitpur, and Manohara River Control Programme jointly constructed a 200-metre embankment on the Lalitpur side of the Manohara River. The construction has protected a historic temple and a residential area against possible monsoon flood.

Spurred by the initiative of the local Tripur Sangam Bhu-Samrakshyan Tatha Tole Sudhar Samiti, the government and the locals jointly constructed the embankment.

Every year, Manohara River, bordering Kathmandu and Lalitpur districts on the Madhyapur Thimi stretch, used to sweep away a huge chunk of cultivable land.

The government allocated Rs 4.5 million in the current fiscal year for the purpose. The budget was released through Water Induced Disaster Control Division Office, Bhaktapur.

Two-hundred-year-old Tainaachal Mahadev Temple and some residential buildings were under the threat of a disaster. The locals had urged the government to take measures to protect the area.

Who is responsible:

We spent around Rs 0.8 million to construct the embankment. Labour amounting to 10 per cent of the total project cost was contributed by locals. The embankment has protected the temple and three houses in the area aginst flood in the river.
