TIA prepares to connect Chandragadhi, Janakpur with night flights
KATHMANDU: Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) has recently increased the hours for operating evening/night flights to various destinations inside the country.
TIA Managing Director Raj Kumar Chhetri was quoted in Rastriya Samachar Samiti as saying that earlier, the evening flights were in operation for an hour (5:00 pm to 6:00 pm) while it has been extended to 9:00 pm as of late.
Presently, the night flights are available from TIA to Biratnagar, Bhairahawa, Nepalgunj and Dhangadhi, and preparations are on to add two more destinations Chandragadhi and Janakpur to the schedule very soon.
As the managing director said, works are going on to prepare the required infrastructures for the operation of night flights to two new domestic destinations.
Prior to this, domestic flights took off from 7:00 in the morning to 6:00 in the evening. Only international flights were operated at night.
According to airport sources, 25 flight schedules of various airlines had been approved for night-time flight in the fourth week of August. As per the approved schedule, Buddha Air had proposed 14 flights, Shree Airlines four flights and Yeti Airlines seven flights.
The government had brought the international airport to 21-hour operation since May 21, 2018. At present the airport is open for 22 hours daily after the domestic terminal building started opening from 5:00 am since September 1, 2018.
These provisions have reportedly helped ease congestion at the airport.
