Transport workers urged to improve conduct
Kathmandu, September 26
DIG Jaya Bahadur Chand, in-charge of the Metropolitan Traffic Police Division, today underscored the need for bringing about qualitative change in the conduct of drivers and helpers towards passengers in public transport.
“We received complaints about the way drivers and their helpers behave with passengers in public transport in the Kathmandu Valley. It is highly important to bridge the gap between the transport workers and passengers by correcting the conduct of public transport staffers toward passengers,” he said at an awareness programme organised by the traffic police and Community Service Centre, Swoyambhu.
He said drivers, their helpers and passengers should build mutual trust and respect each other. “Public transport system is the lifeline of a smart city. Hence, transport workers are expected to be more responsible,” DIG Chand said.
Recently, the MPTD had launched a campaign to make public transport in the Valley more systematic with the slogan ‘Greatness of tongue lies in sweet voice’. It aims to encourage drivers of public transport and traffic police personnel to improve their conduct towards each other.
As part of the campaign, drivers and helpers of public vehicles were asked to improve their conduct towards passengers, provide concession to students and senior citizens, ensure reserved seats for women and differently-abled persons, and display the telephone number of drivers in a visible place inside their vehicles.
