Tributes paid to Dharma Bhakta

Kathmandu, January 26:

On the fourth day of the Martyrs’ we ek, the Martyrs’ Week Main Organising Committee-2006 today organised a condolence meet in Sifal, where Dharma Bhakta Ma-thema had attained martyrdom.

During the function, chief executive officer of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC), Padma Raj Regmi, president of the Mathema Samajik Guthi, Puspa Ram Bhakta Mathema, representatives of the Guthi, family members of martyr Mathema, divisional heads and employees of the KMC and locals paid tributes to the late martyr and garlanded his statue.

Dharma Bhakta Mathema was hanged for fighting against the autocratic Rana regime on this very day some 65 years ago at Sifal, where he had founded a political party named Praja Parishad. Chief executive officer Regmi spoke of the need to live by the ideals of great martyrs of the nation. Nephew of martyr Mathema, Prakash Bhakta Mathema, lauded the role played by martyrs in furthering democratic movement in Nepal.
