Turkish woman wanted to smuggle hashish hiding in underwears

KATHMANDU: Nepal Police's Narcotics Control Bureau said two Turkish nationals were arrested on Monday from the Tribhuvan International Airport for their alleged involvement in hashish smuggling.

Security personnel had first arrested 24-year-old Susoy Selen (PP No. U13963808), who was heading to board a Qatar Airways flight to Doha, after discovering that she had meticulously hidden hashish inside bra and underpants that she was wearing.

The hashish seized from her possession was wrapped in thin plastic and adjusted to her bosom and private parts, the NCB said. It weighed 302 gram.

Based on her statement that she and her compatriot Erguney Kemal (PP No. U13964876) had bought hashish in Kathmandu together, police looked for him at the TIA.

The 29-year-old man had already cleared security check and was waiting to board the QR 647 flight when he was taken in custody from the TIA's sterilised area.

But no contraband was found from him possession.

During interrogation, he admitted that he had dumped hashish in a dustbin at the TIA. A team of security personnel later recovered 159 gram contraband, wrapped in a white plastic, the following day.

NCB has filed cases against the duo as per the Narcotic Drugs (Control) Act, 1976 at the District Police Office. The suspects have been remanded in custody for further investigation.

If convicted, they could be jailed for up to one year.

NCB is coordinating with law enforcement agencies in Turkey and INTERPOL to find out whether the duo were involved in criminal activities in the past in their country and abraod, the NCB said in a statement.
