Two absconding murder suspects arrested

KATHMANDU: Police on Monday said they arrested two absconding suspects on murder charge of an elderly man found dead three months ago, from Gokarna of Kathmandu.

The arrestees have been identified as 36-year-old Lal Bahadur BK (aka Ram Bahadur) and 40-year-old Amar Bahadur BK of Gokarna. Lal Bahadur and Amar, who worked as labourers, are permanent residents of Mukli-9 and Kangel-3 of Solukhumbu district respectively.

They were arrested for murdering 85-year-old Nima Dorje Sherpa on November 11, 2015 with a sharp weapon. Dorje was found dead two days later on the corridor of his own house in Bhuwaldanda in Kathmandu-6.

Lal Bahadur had known Dorje for last two years. After the massive earthquake struck Nepal on April 25 2015, Lal Bahadur had even painted the outer part of Dorje’s house for six days. But, things turned sour when Dorje refused to pay him Rs 800 for a day as he was not satisfied with his work, police said.

On November 11, both the arrestees had gone to Dorje’s house to ask for the payment, but a fight soon started between them and Amar BK attacked the old man with a khukuri on back part of his head and neck.

After seeing Dorje dead, they looted the house and fled with properties worth around Rs 200,000 to 300,000.

Both of them have been sent to Metropolitan Police Range, Boudhha, for further investigation.
