Two boys killed in mishaps

KATHMANDU: Two children were killed when they were hit by speeding vehicles in separate road mishaps here today.

According to the police, a mini truck knocked a seven-year-old boy dead at Gamchha in Chunikhel VDC. The police said Ashok Shrestha was killed in the mishap. Gamchha remained tense throughout the day following the incident. The irate locals did not let the police remove the body for post-mortem till this evening, demanding that the officials hand over the truck driver to them so that they could take action against him for killing a child. The locals accused the police of sheltering the guilty.

The angry mob vandalised the truck following the incident. A large number of security forces have been deployed in and around Gamchha to prevent any untoward incident. The police have detained driver Ram Kaji Shrestha for further investigation, DSP Deepak Thapa, Metropolitan Police Circle, Maharajgunj, said.
