Two held on extortion charge

KATHMANDU: Two persons including an Indian national were arrested for their alleged involvement in extortion, from Khusibu, KMC-16 on Friday.

Kulman Shrestha (35) from Jyamrung-1 of Dhading district and Mukesh Sharma (40) from Rajasthan of India were arrested on charge of threatening one Rajesh Sharma to pay Rs 100,000.

Rajesh, a solar system worker from Birgunj of Parsa, currently residing in Tamsipakha, KMC-28, had filed a complaint with the Metropolitan Police Circle, Janasewa, that the duo threatened him to pay the money.

According to the victim, the duo claimed themselves as staff of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority, visited his shop on January 8 and told him that he was found working with fake bills.

The duo even threatened to abduct wife of Rajesh if he did not pay them the money as demanded, according to police.

Rajesh, however, managed to escape the trap with an understanding to pay the money on Friday, police added.

He then informed police about the threat and called the law enforcement personnel to nab them.

Acting on the information provided by Rajesh, police had nabbed the duo while Rajesh was handing over the cash to them at a Khusibu-based restaurant.

Meanwhile, police also detained Rajesh for investigation.

Police said two other persons involved in the case are at large.
