UML calls Standing Committee meeting on Tuesday to discuss Presidential candidate

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML has called for a Standing Committee meeting on Tuesday to elect candidate for the upcoming Presidential Election scheduled for March 13, according to UML Secretary Pradeep Kumar Gyawali.

The meeting will be held on Tuesday afternoon at the Prime Minister's official residence in Baluwatar.

It is highly likely that incumbent President, Bidya Devi Bhandari, will continue into the next term of office. Meanwhile, former Prime Minister and senior UML leader Jhalanath Khanal has also expressed will to submit candidacy for the top-post.

As per the agreement between ruling coalition partners CPN-UML and Maoist Centre, UML will keep the President's post while Maoist Centre gets the Parliament Speaker's post.
