KATHMANDU, JUNE 19
Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle has said the newly formed Property Probe Commission will not interfere with the constitutional jurisdiction of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA).
Responding to lawmakers during deliberations on the Appropriation Bill in the House of Representatives on Thursday, Minister Wagle said the commission was established to address public demands for stronger anti-corruption measures and improved governance.
He said the temporary commission would investigate the assets of individuals holding political and public office and recommend action to the government if illegal property is identified. The initiative, he noted, is in line with the anti-corruption commitments made by the Rastriya Swatantra Party during the elections.
Minister Wagle expressed confidence that the commission would strengthen accountability by ensuring that public officials' income and assets are subject to scrutiny, thereby discouraging the misuse of public office for personal gain.
