KATHMANDU, JUNE 13

Nepal Police has formed a six-member committee to investigate Friday's fatal bus accident in Kavrepalanchok that claimed eight lives and injured 16 others.

The committee, led by Senior Superintendent of Police Kamal Thapa of the Provincial Police Office, Kavre, has been directed to submit its report within seven days, according to Police Headquarters.

The accident occurred at Buchchakot in Namobuddha Municipality-2 when a passenger bus (Ba 3 Kha 8398) travelling from Banepa to Kharpachok in Roshi Rural Municipality veered off the road and plunged about 300 metres down a slope.

District Police Office spokesperson and Deputy Superintendent of Police Rabin Bista said all eight victims died at the scene. The deceased have been identified as Megh Bahadur Tamang, 73, Raju Tamang, 55, and Indra Bahadur Tamang, 75, of Roshi Rural Municipality-6; Phulmaya Tamang, 34, and Maya Tamang, 60, of Roshi-7; Pyarimaya Tamang, 60, of Roshi-8; Bam Bahadur Bhandari, 30, a Nepal Army soldier serving at Trinetra Battalion in Bhakundebeshi; and Sumi Tamang, 22, of Ghyanglek Rural Municipality-4, Sindhuli.

The injured are receiving treatment at Dhulikhel Hospital.

Police said the bus fell from the Selfiedanda section of the road while en route to Roshi Rural Municipality. Further investigation into the cause of the crash is underway.
