UML to field Nembang against Dahal in PM poll
KATHMANDU: CPN-UML would field its Parliamentary Party's deputy leader and former Speaker Subas Chandra Nembang in the prime ministerial elections at Parliament, according to UML leader and lawmaker Rabindra Adhikari.
"After it is confirmed that our party chairman and Parliamentary Party leader [Caretaker Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli] will not file his nomination, the deputy leader will obviously move forward [for the candidacy]," Adhikari said on Monday.
The alliance of Nepali Congress and CPN Maoist Centre is scheduled to field Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal as the prime ministerial candidate.
Nembang was the chairman of Constituent Assembly for two terms from 2008 till it promulgated the Constitution in September last year.
Adhikari also claimed that it was necessary for the major political parties of the nation to agree on agendas of national significance, rather than on forming a national consensus government. He was speaking at the Reporters' Club in Kathmandu.
Adhikari further voiced for an agreement among the political parties to implement the Constitution and hold local, provincial and federal elections as soon as possible.
Madhesi parties to vote for Dahal
Speaking at the same function, Chairman of Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum-Republican Raj Kishor Yadav made it clear that the agitating Madhesi parties would vote for Dahal.
According to him, the Madhesi parties would lend support to Dahal if they get a written commitment [to meet their demands].
Yadav further said that agendas regarding the rights of Madhesi people were more important for the United Democratic Madhesi Front than joining the government.
