CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli has said his party is carrying out activities to bring about positive changes in the country.

Administrating oath to Chakka Bahadur Lama, who was nominated central committee member of the CPN-UML at the party's central office at Chyasal in Lalitpur today, Oli reiterated that his party was not involved in politics just to get the portfolios of prime minister, speaker, minister and chief minister. "UML is rather a political party that is involved in politics to bring about positive changes in the country," he viewed.

The former prime minister claimed that his party was the only party that garnered support from the people. On the occasion, Oli asked party cadres and leaders to behave with the people in a simple and sensible manner. According to him, his party was moving ahead with the plan to take forward the 'Prosperous Nepal and Happy Nepali' campaign.

Stating that a very powerful international racket was involved in the gold smuggling scam, Oli said the UML had demanded that an investigation committee be formed to curb corruption and smuggling prevailing in the country.

On a different note, Oli said the constitution could be revised if there were any flaws in it. "But the country should be run constitutionally. Let the state adhere to the rule of law," he viewed.

He argued that the state should encourage citizens to abide by the rules and be patriotic.

It may be noted that the UML Secretariat meeting convened on August 14 had nominated Kedar Neupane and Lama as the party's central committee members. Meanwhile, the opposition CPN-UML has summoned its secretariat meeting on September 26.

The party's secretariat meeting will be held at Bishnupurkatti of Siraha district, according to UML's publicity department chief Rajendra Gautam.
