KATHMANDU, JANUARY 20

The Ambassadors Club Nepal has conferred the Recognition Award 2025 on United Nations Resident Coordinator to Nepal, Hanaa Singer-Hamdy, acknowledging her leadership and contributions to Nepal's development efforts.

The award was presented during a special ceremony held on Monday at the Ambassadors Club Nepal office in Bishalnagar.

Announcing the honour, Ambassadors Club Nepal President Ambassador Dr. Sarmila Parajuli Dhakal said the award recognised Singer-Hamdy's distinguished leadership, dedicated service and lasting contribution to Nepal's development journey. Dr. Dhakal, a former ambassador to Spain and Oman, described the recognition as a reflection of the Club's commitment to strengthening development cooperation in Nepal.

On behalf of the Ambassadors Club Nepal, Pushkar Sapkota, Secretary for Law and Human Rights at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, formally presented the award to Singer-Hamdy.

This marks the first award instituted by the Ambassadors Club Nepal, which plans to honour ambassadors, diplomats, and senior officials of international organisations on an annual basis. The recipients are selected by a jury committee of the Club.

Receiving the award, Singer-Hamdy thanked the Ambassadors Club Nepal and its president for the recognition, calling Nepal her Maitighar (mother's home). "Nepal for me is my Maitighar (mother's home). I have been coming to Nepal since 1997. I have visited Nepal around seven or eight times, and I have lived and worked in Nepal for around six years. I have travelled to over 54 districts, and I have been overwhelmed by emotions."

She also shared that she has travelled to more than 54 districts and described Nepal as a place she continues to return to because of what she called the "magic" of the country and its people.

The ceremony was attended by ambassadors, diplomats, senior government officials, representatives of diplomatic missions and private sector leaders.

The Ambassadors Club Nepal is a non-profit and non-partisan platform that brings together diplomatic missions to promote dialogue, friendship and cooperation, while fostering partnerships aimed at positive and sustainable change in Nepal.
