UNESCO official arriving today
KATHMANDU: Director General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, Irina Bokova, is arriving in Kathmandu on a three-day visit to Nepal on Sunday. During her stay here, she will take stock of the post-quake reconstruction and rehabilitation process. The UNESCO official will separately meet with President Bidhya Devi Bhandari, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Kamal Thapa, Education Minister Girirajmani Pokharel and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Ananda Prasad Pokharel, UNESCO Office said. Bokova will also go on inspection tour of the UNESCO-run projects and visit Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha. UNESCO was established in 1945 to contribute to peace and security by promoting international collaboration through educational, scientific and cultural reforms in order to increase universal respect for justice, rule of law and human rights and fundamental freedom. Nepal became a member of UNESCO in 1952.
