KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 13
Um Hong Gil Human Foundation (UHGHF) handed over the Primary School & Library buildings (2 buildings) to Prithvi Narayan Secondary School (PNSS) amidst a ceremony held on Tuesday.
The ceremony was held in Tarkeshwor Municipality-5 in presence of 1000 students, teachers, parents and guest from Korea and Nepal.
The Ceremony was conducted with the chief guest Krishna Hari Maharjan, Mayor of Tarkeshwor Municipality. The donor of newly built two buildings, Venerable Hyungeun, Venerable Jung Un and (Monks), Jang Young Ja, Chairman of Kum Cheon Sun Won (Buddhist Temple), Busan, Korea, Captain Um Hong Gil, Executive Director, UHGHF and representative of Korean Embassy to Nepal witnessed the ceremony. The Ceremony was chaired byKedar Prashad Aryal, School Construction Committee Chairperson.
The ground breaking ceremony was held in 2019 and planned to complete in 2022. However, due to the COVID 19 impact the construction period extended for today. The 3 storied primary building has 12 rooms consisting of Montessori and Kindergarten, classrooms with separate age and gender friendly toilets. The library building has been designed to be easily accessible for community people as well. It also has 5 commercial shutters for financial sustainability of the school. Moreover, it believes to fulfill the academic requirement of school promoting book reading and knowledge sharing culture and assist to maintain the quality education as well as it helps to strengthen the bond between school and community, according to the statement issued by the UHGHF.
The Kum Cheon Sun Won is a Buddhist temple and one of the donors of Primary School and Library Buildings in PNSS. The temple is located in Mount Geumjeongsan in Busan South Korea, and has a history spanning a century. They have been supporting various charitable activities including hospital treatment support for Nepalese workers in South Korea and donations to the schools in Dharamsala, India and Myanmar.
The other major donor of this project is Jeonggaksa Temple, located in Seattle, Washington USA. This temple is famous for its Buddhist teachings to the Koreans living in the USA and charitable works around the globe. Both the temples are founded and operated by female monks, it said.
This project has 3 academic buildings, 1 library building, 1 sports complex, 2 gender friendly toilet buildings, and renovation of existing buildings as well as the management of land and boundary wall. The project has separate donors for each building, thus two academic buildings (Middle and High school buildings) already handed over to the school on November 05, 2023 and sports complex plans to handover in 2024.
Captain Um Hong Gil is a legendary mountaineer and the only person to scale 16 highest peaks above 8000m in the world where 10 peaks are situated in Nepal, and working in Nepal through his Charitable organization, Um Hong Gil Human Foundation (UHGHF) since 2009 with a strong commitment to enhancing quality education for disadvantaged and marginalized children. UHGHF has supported to build 17 school campuses across the country and around 8000 students are getting a direct benefit from it.
