Unified left to find an alternative name; 'Nepal Communist Party' taken
KATHMANDU: CPN-UML and CPN Maoist Centre, on their unification, will have to find a name other than Nepal Communist Party (NCP)- the name that was decided upon in the seven point agreement signed by the two parties yesterday.
The soon-to-become-one ruling coalition partners must consider a new name for the unified party as another political party headed by Rishi Ram Kattel has already registered the name 'Nepal Communist Party' in the Election Commission.
NCP had contested in the recently held elections with this name.
Moreover, Netra Bikram Chand 'Biplav' led underground party as for long claimed the same party name too.
The Election Commission cannot register two parties with the same name, as such, the left-alliance will have to look for an alternative party name.
The two parties had struck a seven point agreement on Monday on modality of the unification. One of the points of the agreement was that the unified party would be named Nepal Communist Party.
