United Kingdom, Singapore welcome new constitution

Kathmandu, October 9

British State Minister for Foreign Affairs Hugo Swire has said that the new constitution was a milestone in Nepal’s peace process and congratulated Nepali people on its adoption.

In his welcome message to Minister for Foreign Affairs Mahendra Bahadur Pandey, Swire said, “It’s a milestone for both the government and people of Nepal.” He also expressed hope that the remaining issues with the agitating Madhesi forces and other indigenous groups would be resolved soon through dialogue and flexibility from all sides, according to Officiating Foreign Secretary Shankar Das Bairagi.

Meanwhile, Singapore has also congratulated Nepali people on the promulgation of the statute, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, sending a congratulatory message to his Nepali counterpart Prime Minister Sushil Koirala, said, “The constitution will be a key step towards greater peace, prosperity and progress in Nepal.”
