Kathmandu, May 30:

US Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labour, Barry F Lowenkron, arrived here today on a four-day visit.

Lowenkron is in Nepal to promote ‘setting a firm date for the Constituent Assembly elections’ and to encourage the interim government to establish an open and inclusive electoral and political process.

The US official will also examine human rights protection and abuses, and encourage all parties to the comprehensive peace agreement to adhere to their commitments to bring lasting peace and democracy to Nepal.
