US urge all to work together for second phase of local polls

KATHMANDU: The US Embassy in Kathmandu on Tuesday has urged all the stakeholders to work together to successfully hold the second phase of local polls in the remaining provinces on June 14.

IT has also welcomed the first phase of local level elections that were held on Sunday to select local representatives in 281 local bodies in 34 districts.

In a statement today, it further urged the stakeholders to work together to create conditions to ensure the people of Province number 1, 2, 5 and 7 to exercise their democratic right to directly elect their local representatives.

The Embassy also encourgaed unrestricted international election observation to be authorised for the next phase of local poll, to enable the international community, including accredited diplomats, to observe and offer support to the outcomes of the election, reads the statement.

The US diplomatic mission also said it is committed to working with all the stakeholders for an inclusive peaceful and broadly-supported election process.
