Valley saw 134 accidents in a month

Kathmandu, March 21:

A total of 134 accidents took place in Falgun (February-March) in the Kathmandu Valley, Valley Traffic Police Office (VTPO) said today.

Krishna Bahadur Ranamagar, senior superintendent of police at the VTPO, said eight persons were killed, 20 were seriously injured while 139 others sustained minor injuries in the accidents.

According to the VTPO, 212 vehicles were involved in the accidents, including 25 trucks, 23 buses, 73 jeeps, cars and vans, 7 tempos, 96 motorcycles and one tractor.

Ranamagar said that 40 accidents took place due to the carelessness of drivers, 23 accidents took place due to drivers’ effort to overtake other vehicles and 29 accidents happened due to high speed.

Officials at the VTPO said 31 accidents took place due to intake of alcohol by the drivers, four accidents due to overload in vehicles while seven accidents took place because of technical mistakes. Four accidents took place at Maitighar, three at Babarmahal, four at Minbhawan, five at airport Chowk, 25 at Ghattaghar, 13 at Bhaktapur, 29 at Satdobato, eight at Kalanki, six at Sitapaila, three at gangabu, two at maharajgunj, four at Sukedhara, five at Chabahil and 20 at Jawalakhel, VTPO said.
