Victims’ kin obstruct Araniko Highway

BHAKTAPUR: Family and friends of the two youths, who were killed in Chapacho, Thimi on Tuesday, halted traffic movement along the Koteshwor-Thimi stretch of the Araniko Highway Thursday morning.

They blocked vehicular movement by burning tyres at Thimi, Gatthaghar, Kaushaltar, Jadibuti and Pepsicola demanding action against those involved in lynching the youths for suspected kidnapping, compensation to the bereaved

family, as well as treatment of those injured in the incident. The traffic movement resumed at 11 am.

The two youths, Jiwan Thapa Magar and Sabin Mahat Chhetri, were killed at Chapacho after being severely thrashed by the locals. According to B&B hospital sources, the condition of Basanta Lama Magar, a ninth grader at Nawa Jyoti English School, Koteswor, and Saroj Rai, a tenth grader at Bal Premi Secondary School, Thimi, who were also thrashed by the locals, is still critical.

The police had arrested two youths — Subash Adhikari and Pradip Poudel —in connection with the incident yesterday. While two other youths, Manil Shrestha and Anil Nagarkoti, were arrested today for interrogation. Meanwhile, the locals of Chapacho today denied any role in the incident.
