Kathmandu, April 5:

Villagers of Mulpani VDC-9 severely beat up two persons who, the villagers thought, were trying to rob the house of a local, Hari Phuyal.

Police said villagers beat up Bhakta Bahadur Lama, 26, and Kumar Lama, 21, after the duo asked the Phuyal family to close the doors of the house.

Bhaka and Lama said they had gone there to meet their uncle.

“There is no single clue that they had gone there to rob the house,” Inspector Pratap Gurung at the Bouddha Ward Police Office said. He said the duo were not armed while the incident happened. Ramhari Simkhada, a local, said the villagers beat up the two men after the Phuyal family cried for help.

Police are investigating the case. “If the boys are found innocent, the villagers would be taken into custody,” police said.
