A building of currency museum has been constructed to mark the 82nd establishment year of the National Museum in Chhauni.

National Museum Chief Jayaram Shrestha handed over a key of the new building to Chief of Currency Museum Pratima Ranjeet at a programme today. The new building is constructed on the premises of the National Museum.

Construction of the three-storeyed building was initiated following the 2015 Gorkha earthquakes. The devastating quake had destroyed the dilapidated building of the Currency Museum.

Currency dating back from the fifth century to paper notes have been collected and showcased in the museum. It also has gathered currencies that were in use before the eighth century BC.

The museum building was constructed at the initiative of the National Reconstruction Authority. Museum Chief Shrestha said that an additional budget of Rs 70 million was demanded from the NRA to give complete shape to the building. "The museum could be given complete shape structurally if the budgetary arrangement was made as per the demand," he added.

On the occasion of the establishment day, the entrance gate of the National Museum was inaugurated.

At the programme, the 'Virtual Reality Museum Tour' was also inaugurated which invites visitors to observe historical heritages inside the museum through virtual mode. With this, one can observe the museum from anywhere anytime.

On the same occasion, Secretary of Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Yadav Prasad Koirala launched a book 'Art Heritage Part-4' authored by Associate Professor Dr Milan Ratna Shakya.
