VP may face corruption charge: NBA chief

KATHMANDU: President of Nepal Bar Association (NBA) Bishwokanta Mainali today said the Vice President Paramananda Jha would have to face charges of corruption if he continued enjoying the state facilities without taking fresh oath within the deadline.

Mainali said the there was no question over the constitutionality over the decision of the Supreme Court and thus there was no interest behind the

decision.

“The apex court has paid due respect to Vice President and thus provided certain time to retake the fresh oath,” he argued.

He also said that the oath issue should not be politicised. “Let’s not do politics inside the court,” he urged all the political parties.

He suggested that the VP continued with his job with fresh oath which would solve the problem.

However, Birkhesh Chandra Lal of Tarai Madhesh Democratic Party said the SC’s order was “regressive and that the apex court was not sensitive towards communal harmony”.

Joint chairman of Nepal Sadhvawana Party Laxman Lal Karna also echoed similar

view. “VP Jha has initiated the revolution for the sake of mother languages of the country,” he said.
