'Most wanted' human trafficking suspect in police net

KATHMANDU: Police said a special team deployed from the Metropolitan Crime Division has arrested a "most wanted" person for his alleged involvement in human trafficking and other fraudulent activities for last 15 years.

Police identified the suspect as 39-year-old Chhatra Bahadur Bishwakarma of Angsarang-3 in Panchthar district. He was arrested from Bagdol of Lalitpur district on Wednesday.

Police also seized 10 passports, Rs 129,000 cash, two sets of mobile phones, a diary, a black Pulsar bike (Ba 30 Pa 3319), eight debit cards, vouchers and cheques of various banks among others.

A preliminary police investigation has revealed that Bishwakarma used various Nepal-India border points to traffic women to Kuwait, Oman and Kurdistan via New Dehli.

Victims had resorted to the MCD to file complaints against Bishwakarma about their plights in foreign lands after they were trafficked there in the pretext of better jobs and perks.

Police meanwhile said the suspect would operate his racket from New Delhi.

The investigation also revealed that Bishwakarma had swindled various foreign job aspirants of Rs 7.6 million. He had collected Rs 6 million from four persons including Bir Bahadur Aadai of Bobang-3 of Baglung district on the pretext of sending them to Canada.

He had also collected Rs 700,000 from two persons for sending them to Dubai for security guard jobs. Later, they were left stranded after landing in the gulf city.

Meanwhile, police said they are looking ahead to bust other members of the international racket.
