What’s broken?
LALITPUR: The road linking Prayag Pokhari and Sundhara at Lalitpur Sub-metropolitan City-12 is in a bad shape and needs urgent maintenance. According to the locals, the section was built decades ago but was last blacktopped only about five years back. “In the last five years the locals dug up the road at several places while constructing pipelines for two water spouts — Tusa Hiti and Bhanakeba Hiti — in Mangalbazaar,” said Nati Khadgi of Thaina. He added that the locals had also created problems by building houses without leaving any space. “The authorities concerned always say they would blacktop the road. But it hasn’t happened so far,” he added. Sujan Shrestha, a pedestrian, wondered why the authorities concerned were not fixing pipelines and sewage lines before blacktopping the road. “We have to suffer a lot while using the road, especially during the evenings,” he said. Kapil Shakya, a local shopkeeper, said accidents had become frequent on the road. “The situation further aggravates during the rainy days,” he adds. Who’s responsible? We are aware of the condition of the road and we are also receiving a number of complaints from the locals. But we haven’t been able to maintain it because of internal problems. We have earmarked Rs 1 million for the repair of the road. Most probably the work will begin next month. — Ram Ratna Shah Engineer, Lalitpur Sub-Metropolitan City
