Woman, 24, dies in Jadibuti road mishap, locals torch tipper

KATHMANDU: A pillion riding woman has lost her life on the spot after a tipper welted a scooter at Jadibuti-Koteshwor road section, today.

The tipper bearing registration Ba 4 Kha 3558 en route to Koteshwor from Jadibuti welted a scooter (Ba 70 Pa 9399) travelling on the same lane, killing 24-year-old Asmita Bhandari of Kavrepalanchok, informed the police.

Bhandari was pronounced dead upon arrival at Lalitpur-based B & B Hospital. The rider, Ashish Upreti, has sustained minor injuries.

Following the incident, agitated locals set ablaze the tipper forcing firefighters to rush into the scene and douse the burning vehicle. Moreover, vehicular movement along the road section came to a halt for more than an hour as locals protested the death of Bhandari demanding stern action against the driver.

Police have detained the tipper driver and further investigation is ongoing.
