Women’s role in statute drafting

KATHMANDU: Professional women from various walks of life on Friday have stressed that women should take initiative from their respective sectors to draft the constitution on time.

Speaking at an interaction programme on the role of professional women in constitution writing process organised by Sancharika Samuha in the capital, they said the constitution would not be drafted on time if the women did not commit their active participation in the process. Saying that the new constitution must accomodate women adequately, they welcomed new provisions for women in civil and police services.

The Samuha’s president Babita Basnet and general secretary Nirmala Sharma also presented subject-wise working papers at the programme. Speakers also expressed their concerns over the prolonged delay in drafting the constitution as the first of the two years allotted for the task has already lapsed.
