Lalitpur, June 2:

The Lalitpur sub-Metropolitan City (LMC) has started to blacktop the inner streets of five wards in Patan again. The work was started in 2002, but was left incomplete. LMC spokesperson Ashok Shrestha said the blacktopping was stalled because budget was not allocated for the same in the following years. And as “funds have been allocated only in this current fiscal year 2061/62 BS, we will have to start work before the funds freeze,” he said.

The work on the road leading from Bishalchowk to Basketball ground in Ward-14 was started in February, according to Shrestha. An amount or Rs 3.4 million has been allocated for the project. Tenders have been invited to blacktop various streets — from Chaudhary Group to Sanepa health post in Ward-2; from Gyankunja school to Pancheshwore Mahadev school in Ward-13; Kumaripati to Dakshinkali mandir in Ward-5; Ring Road to Binaya Basti in Ward-2 and Pimbahal to Dhapgal in Ward-18. The amount approved for the contract ranges from Rs 0.56 million to Rs 3.39 million. The work has been jointly undertaken by LMC, consumer’s community of the locality and Ministry of Local Development and Road for Nepal.
